Gemma Murphy is a Partner in Jack Murphy Jewellers, the multi-award-winning family business based in the centre of Newry City. As one of Ireland's leading jewellers, they have recently celebrated fifty years in business, with Gemma’s father Jack establishing it back in 1972 with the mantra, ‘You can buy advertisement but you earn reputation.’
Gemma is a leader and a visionary, always seeking opportunity and pushing the boundaries. Jack is now semi-retired and has said,
“I’m proud to witness the next generation take on the reins of the business and see their enthusiasm and vision come to life, taking the business my wife, Pat and I started, over 50 years ago, to new levels. It’s an exciting time for Jack Murphy Jewellers and I look forward to seeing what the future holds!”
In this episode, Gemma shares why she joined the business and how things have changed over the years. As a leader, she discusses the importance of growing a good team, and how she goes about doing this. Customer experience is definitely what makes Jack Murphy Jewellers stand out, therefore, Gemma explains how they have achieved this and offers advice to businesses seeking to take theirs to the next level.
On her entrepreneurial journey, Gemma speaks openly about her personal challenges, dyslexia, dyspraxia and how her strongest talent, emotional intelligence, has helped her to get to where she is today.
She ends the episode by offering advice to small business owners who perhaps are struggling to stand out in their field.
An emotional, thought provoking episode with an emphasis on the importance of team building for business growth. One not to miss.
